Notes From Nature Talk

Four descriptions

  • ghewson by ghewson

There seems to be one specimen, but there are four descriptions of habitat, labelled A to D; D is ringed. Presumably D applies to this specimen, but why are the other three descriptions on the label?

The same label is on ANN0000421, but with A ringed and with a different species hand-written at the top, and with a different collection number. I'm going to transcribe that, but I'm still puzzled. I guess the collectors photocopied a number of labels, and thought it would be easier to have one big label rather than four individual labels.

Yes, I think that is exactly what happened. The collector made a generic label for that day and then indicated which habitat the plant came from. You will notice that the same general location is used for each of the habitat types.
