Would anybody do it differently?
Having seen the name of R. K. Godfrey so often, I did a little investigation a couple of weeks ago. He was born in 1911, so was doing field work in his mid 60s, at least. Curiously, there's an article about him in the Spanish Wikipedia, but not in the English. There's a fine obituary linked from his page on the FSU Biology site.
I often wonder if he was trying to compile the largest collection the world has ever seen. So far as I can tell, he did. I like seeing the way the names cross-reference each other. Sometimes there are two or more collectors, next I see one Det. for the other, and then vice versa.
