The meaning of "det."

    Hi all,
    Th question about what "det." on the insect labels is has come up many times. I thought I would post it here so people can find out if they search the help board. "det." stands for determined, that is identified, as in "det. J. Powell, 1978", which means Jerry Powell made the determination (identification) of that specimen as a particular species and did so in 1978. As this is on the determination label and not the locality label, you don't need to transcribe it.
