In the Herbarium if I choose to skip an item it doesn't update the tally in the top right of the transcription screen. However, if I come out of transcribing and go look at my profile then the tally of my transcriptions includes the item that I skipped. When I go back to transcribing the tally in the top right includes this skipped item.
I hope the same thing doesn't happen at your end, particularly as the items I skip tend to be ones with difficult handwriting that require an extra level of scrutiny.

The tallies can be a bit flaky. It says I transcribed 3000+ yesterday or something like that. But the running totals catch up correctly in the end and the IT people have confirmed all information input is getting through to them. Keep transcribing, you are needed! 😃

I have the same situation, whatever item I skip it counts as if I did it
