These Sphinx moths never cease to amaze me
They were all there in '86 so prolly it, but as Ive seen before would have been nice for photog to move the pin 2 mm 😛
Wilson's Lake is in Pasadena (think he misspelled it) Fordyce Grinnel, Jr. (heck of a colorful name!)
Probably the time they were out collecting/looking. Those specific collectors seem to always record that 😃
Sort of reads like a Harlequin novel, but for vegetation. "Her heaving buttswells..." I do admire the attention to detail!

I think it means the collectors set up a light to lure the bugs to it and then next things the bugs know, we're typing up their labels

I peeked at the database & Mr. Thompson collected insects in 1907/1906 so I'm thinking this guy is 1907, also. Interesting tho!

I am putting this bug up here because I feel sorry for him. No info to speak of & he has such a gigantic head. And just look at that face

I find myself doing a lot of insects that are already listed in the Essig Database. Is this redundant or should I record it anyway?

tips "buff mink" Boar (borders) "army brown" very tough cartilaginous taste mild but _ metallic.
