Notes From Nature Talk
Written in French, with very little info.
#handwriting Near Moores Creek? I looked up Virginia's rivers and didn't find anything that would fit with what's illegibly written.
#genusonly
#handwriting My interpretation is: sparsely attached hub of upper blade surface, otherwise glabrous.
#location Is this specimen from Pennsylvania or West Virginia?
#handwriting weed in waste places? Then St. A. Pk. which makes no sense if I'm getting the handwriting correct.
The only info here is species name and location up to the county...
Google has Elaeanus argentea, but not Elaeanus argenta. Misspelling?
The tag is cut off. I infer that the two cut-off words are Blakeley and Alligator, but it could be Alligator Pond (i.e., pondweed).
#handwriting Camp Tuckahoe... Via Stuarts Draft maybe?
Also, I'm not sure whether I should mention the note about exchange duplicate.
The "county" of McCurtain isn't in the list; Louisiana apparently has parishes instead of counties according to Wikipedia.
The collection number is blocked by the specimen.
#handwriting Campus near ... museum
Lol! Herbarium of No. 878. Wonder whose parents named him 878.
#unclearlocation I did some research, and it's probably talking about Hunter's Branch Rd, Va, on the border of Fairfax and Arlington Co's.
Is that white tape? It almost looks like someone cut the specimen and then artfully rearranged it... 😃
#handwriting collector name? I assume he's collected other specimens, so maybe someone's come across his name before. Jaye James? Jones?
#unclearlocation
The state is unclear. Virginia, Alabama, or Mississippi? Alabama is the one with a county called Mobile, so I put that.
That'll take too long lol. I meant to ask, is there a list of the badges?
The #handwriting next to locality is terrible. The second word could be county, especially since the county isn't listed elsewhere...
The only badges I can find a list of are seed, seedling, and sprout. But I recently got a "tree" badge. Is there really a Sequoia Badge?
Or maybe the kids are continuing in the family profession 😃 Rare these days, but it probably still happens.
#handwriting At the bottom, my interpretation is: rarely to 2.5 (2.6)/2.7: white margined ...blade fruit 2.1-2.2. ...ooale 7
#handwriting Locality: Sandy....Blue Ridge....Pond Habitat: ....soil (dry) Collector: Lloyd .... Oops, missed the sample number 411.
Oscola...as in Osceola County? Not much info for this one, and it's practically illegible.
Not sure which specimen number to use; I count 4 possible numbers I could use. One in top left, one in top right, and two in bottom right.
Just put arnoglossum floridanum as the species, and the scientific author as (Gray) H. Robinson, because that's the most recent ID.
