  #spelling This is definitely Witch Hazel but the genus is spelled "Hammelis"- only spelling I can find is "Hamamelis"- archaic spelling?

  Or just plain wrong! You can decided which to use. Any expert using this information could easily figure out the correct spelling.

  In cases such as this I have been entering as written, adding [sic] after the part that seems to be clearly a mistake. Not sure what's best.

  I'd also say something along the lines of : 'transcriber's note: appears to be witch hazel', since you're sure of it. Couldn't hurt.
