Vanished in time

  • Noharrr by Noharrr

Classifying an insect from a location that no longer exists: CalBug EMEC527156 Halictus tripartitus was collected in Monticello, California, in 1930 (county not recorded). Internet searching showed a Monticello in Napa county -- a town which no longer exists! Seems the area was drowned in 1957 when Lake Berryessa became the reservoir of the Monticello Dam. This put me in mind of a thread from the botany project - "Near the TB Sanatorium". Gives a tiny hint of what it must be like to be a historian. This bug was collected from a place that vanished in time. Would be interested in other such "vanished in time" incidents.
