Notes From Nature Talk

"Chamaesyce" genus may need to be changed to "Euphorbia" on many labels

  • Mr._Kevvy by Mr._Kevvy

Finding many labels with this genus in the new batch of ~3K from FSU. Chamaesyce appears to have been recently recognized as a subgenus of Euphorbia due to genetic analyses, and the authoritative naming sites that I use (ITIS and TPL) have changed all entries from Chamaesyce to Euphorbia listing the Chamaesyce entries as synonyms. (USDA has still not updated.) Labels may need a redetermination. :^)

Thanks for pointing this out. I see your point.

Interestingly, Euphoria is one of the largest genera of flowering plants in the world. It has over 2000 species!

Nice... and it a looks like there are hundred(s) more with all the Chamasyce species rolled in... popular genus. I've been adding comments to all of them in the FSU transcriptions and there are probably about a hundred I've seen. I'll doubtless miss far more so hopefully all these changes will be applied globally to the database once it's aggregated.
