Based on other specimens I've seen, the only thing I can positively say is that it's in Virginia. Maybe even close to the Mountain Lake Biological Station (which is in Giles County, if memory is correct).

I just put the name into Dogpile search and the very first hit is a 1964 paper by Tom S. Cooperrider and Robert S. Thorne titled "The Flora of Giles County, Virginia." [URL http://www.jstor.org/discover/10.2307/4032132?uid=3739776&uid=2134&uid=2&uid=70&uid=4&uid=3739256&sid=21102043319813]
Moonshine Dell is not in the preview.I thought Floyd County was the go-to for moonshine anyway. lol
