    That is a good question. In this context I am not sure, but I know one of the collectors and will find out.

    and "sp" could stand for specimen ... an omalus specimen ?

    In the context of a species name "sp." stands for "species" when the actual species is unknown and it is just placed in a Genus, e.g. "Omalus sp.". In this case the "(SP)" is on the collection label and so it must refer to some aspect of the collecting event. Usually this is special note referring to something in a collector's notebook.
